The Mosholu Rebbe’s Visit To The Five Towns

RebbeThe recent visit of the Mosholu Rebbe, shlita, on Shabbos Parashas Vayeishev, and the subsequent Chanukah Party on Wednesday evening, the second night of Chanukah, has left an indelible impression on the Five Towns. The Rebbe’s stay energized the atmosphere and elevated spirits.

The Rebbe was accompanied by many close followers who wished to join him and be a part of this annual experience. The Lawrence community warmly welcomed the guests with incredible hospitality. Countless people opened their homes to the out-of-town guests, graciously providing accommodations for their stay. The hosts demonstrated tremendous kindness and epitomized hachnasas orchim in every possible way.

The inspirational Shabbos commenced with Minchah and Kabbalas Shabbos in the Shaaray Tefila shul. The Rebbe spoke warmly and expressed his high regard for the shul and kehillah. As the Rebbe related, a close chassid and long-time family friend, Mr. Berel Braun, n’y, a longtime member of the kehillah, always spoke highly of the Shaaray Tefila kehillah. Now, upon his personal encounter with it, the Rebbe said that “seeing is believing” and the image has solidified. The Rebbe extolled the beauty of the kehillah and how inspiring it is to daven in their shul. The Rebbe further provided some insightful divrei Torah. After davening, the crowd respectfully passed the Rebbe to wish a “Gut Shabbos.” The Rebbe sang a beautiful melody to the words of “Shabbos shalom u’mevorach,” as traditionally sung by his great ancestor, the Rebbe Rav Isumer of Nadvorna, setting an inspirational atmosphere.

Rabbi Gruber’s shul hosted the Friday-night seudah for the out-of-town guests in the downstairs hall. The meal was prepared beautifully and was open to local guests who wished to partake. Mr. Shimon Moshe Simon, the renowned askan and CEO of Zap Electric, spoke during the meal.

The Friday-night tisch took place at the home of the gracious hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Edelman. A great local audience came to join and stayed throughout the whole tisch. The huge turnout was greater than anticipated. Many chashuve rabbanim, including Rabbi Shmuel Brazil, Rabbi Spiegel, Rabbi Rubin of Sulitz, and Rabbi Leibel Gruber, graced the event. As is customary by his tisch, the Rebbe discussed the parashas ha’shavua. The Rebbe’s divrei Torah and soul-stirring niggunim were highlights of the tisch, which ended in the early morning hours.

On Shabbos morning a large crowd gathered to daven Shacharis at Rabbi Gruber’s shul. The Rebbe declined to speak, given the short Shabbos afternoon and not wishing to impose on the mispallelim. The morning tefillos were followed by a kiddush. Mr. and Mrs. Aroni Parnes graciously hosted the Rebbe for the midday seudah. The conversation revolved around mitzvas tefillin, owing to the forthcoming bar mitzvah of the host’s son.

Minchah and shalosh seudos were hosted by Mr. Josh Gutman. During shalosh seudos, the shul darkened as the Rebbe narrated sipurei tzadikim. The shalosh seudos accompanied with soul-stirring niggunim proceeded into motzaei Shabbos. After Maariv, the Rebbe recited the havdalah in Mr. Edelman’s house, where the crowd sprang forth into a joyous and soul-lifting dance.

The Shabbos experience culminated with a grand melaveh malkah in the home of Mr. Mayer Futersak. The seudah was splendid, enhanced with divrei brachah v’chizuk. The music and songs sparked the enthusiasm of all those present and developed into flaming dance with the Rebbe. After the Rebbe left, a remarkable presentation on the history and accomplishments of Mosholu was presented.

On Wednesday evening, the second night of Chanukah, a spectacular Chanukah party was organized at the home of Mr. David Muradi. The party was attended by a nice crowd, and turned out to be a leibedike (dynamic) event, infused with the Chanukah spirit. Many showed their overwhelming support for the Rebbe’s mosad. The Rebbe leads a talmud Torah with over 300 talmidim in Boro Park. His total devotion to the talmud Torah and complete interest in every detail significantly enhance the cheder’s success. Under his guidance and expertise and with his siyata d’Shmaya, the cheder is flourishing. At Talmud Torah of Mosholu, no child is deprived of an education due to an inability to pay tuition. The cheder currently has quite a number of children attending gratis.

On Monday, December 10, the seventh night of Chanukah, the Rebbe conducted the lighting of the menorah at the home of Mr. Moshe Paul Stark. A large gathering of people assembled to be a part of this event. The Rebbe’s genuine fervor for this mitzvah radiated into the hearts of all assembled.

Throughout the visit in the Five Towns, the Rebbe did his utmost to extend much support and assistance to all who came to him for advice, counsel, and chizuk. Many shidduchim were redt during this time. Fellow Jews received much chizuk and help in various areas of difficulty.
