Head scarf gets girl benched
In Palm Harbour, a teenager was benched from a soccer game because she wore a head scarf. The referee ruled that the scarf was not a part of the teen’s uniform, and that it was in violation of the rules of the game.
This incident is intolerable. The girl’s constitutional rights were violated.
The referee should not only publicly apologize to the teen, but also be suspended from future games. It is not fair that such limitations were placed on her. She simply was abiding by her religion. This shows that prejudice still exists in this country, the land of the free.
