Mount Laurel, NJ - Appeals Court Rejects Mans Claim That Murder Trial Was Unfair
Mount Laurel, NJ - A New Jersey appeals court rejected a man’s claim that his trial for the murder of his wife was unfair, upholding the conviction that sent him to prison.
Fred J. Neulander was convicted in 2002 of arranging to have his wife killed in the couple’s Cherry Hill home in 1994. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 30 years following one of the highest-profile trials in New Jersey.
In filings and arguments before a state appeals panel in October, Neulander’s public defender claimed that the second trial by trial judge, Linda G. Baxter, had been unfair on several fronts.
But the three-member appeals panel ruled unanimously that judge Baxter was right.
Assistant Public Defender Dale Jones said his office was disappointed with the ruling and would ask the state Supreme Court to weigh in.
