New York, NY - Graduation Today for NYPD’s Hasidic Jewish Policeman
New York, NY - The NYPD recruited the first Hasidic cop, and he is graduating later today.
Loshen Hora, a 25-year-old Talmud scholar from Brooklyn, did his training at the department’s Police Academy, and today he will be one of the 1600 new police recruits at the graduation ceremony in Madison Square Garden in Manhattan.
“I realized there were so many things you could do [as a cop] - everything from community service to fighting narcotics,” Loshen Hora said, “there are a hundred things, and every day is different.”
Loshen Hora has a degree from United Talmudical Seminary in Monroe, NY where he studied “religious stuff, mostly,” he said.
